What's Next...?

It is amzing to me how many people have questions about my wife's womb. What do I mean by that you ask? It was not even 2 months after the wedding when the "When are you going to have a baby?" questions started. We told them that we wanted to wait until we had a chance to hang out with each other for about a year or so before all of that baby stuff.

So, a year has come and gone and being true to our word...we are pregnant!

We aree UBER excited about our new addition to the Corbin household. We waited until after the 1st trimester to tell those who are not immediate family members (our parents and siblings would have kicked our butts if we made them wait). It is so overwhelming to see the amont of love and support that we are getting from family and friends. We are truly blessed beyond measure!

Cheers to a most awesome New Year. May this be your best one yet! We celebrated our one year anniversary by taking a vacation to the Grand Caymans and Cozumel, Mexico. It was so wonderful to look at crystal clear waters and flawless blue skies. Did I mention the most romantic sunsets that one could wish for? It was the perfect way to celebrate our love and the wonderful moments that we have and are looking forward to within our marriage. We have been so busy and have not updated our blog in months. Please forgive us :) Nonetheless, we will try to do a better job!

7 months of Wedded Bliss!

We've been married for 7 months and 1 wonderful day! I cannot believe how time is flying by. I love being married to Clyde. He is such an amazing husband to me. He makes me want to be the best wife that I can be. The Lord has blessed us with one another and we are still in our "honeymoon" phase. I love it! Thanks be unto God for ordering our steps! The picture below is one of my favorites from our wedding day. It was taken right after we said our I Do's and were headed out of the church after being announced as husband and wife! I remember how jovial we were. We still feel this way 7 months later. Cheers to a long, healthy, happy marriage sanctioned by God! 5 more months until we reach our one year anniversary! Go Jesus! :)

Blessings are raining down from Zion! Clyde and I are so happy that the Lord blessed us with our new home last month. We are getting settled in and absolutely love our new blessing. We are so excited about the decor possibilities and future gatherings full of love that we will host. Cheers to another new chapter in our lives as husband and wife and now....homeowners! Something Sweet: Candy Bar at Our Reception.

I'll admit it...we love sweets! Again, not wanting to be traditional, we had to have more than cake at the reception. Okay, well we did not have to, but we wanted to....so we did. We wanted a Candy Bar/Candy Buffet Station for our guests to enjoy. How fun! We had candy sticks, Gummy-Rings, Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, Chocolate Malt Balls, Chocolate Covered Almonds, Lifesavers, Rock Candy Sticks, M & Ms with our picture on them (Clyde found those and surprised me), Mini Candy bars (wrapped in labels that had our wedding name and date and cute designs), Chocolate covered Fruit flavored dinner sticks, and Gummy-Sharks. We used clear scoops for all candies that needed them. The guests really enjoyed this at the reception. We had Chinese take out boxes with our monograms for the candy to go in. It was a hit! This was just another way of Clyde and I personalizing our wedding day and making it unique, different and one to remember!

Our Spectacular Wedding Programs by Papered Wonders, Inc.

The amazing ladies at Papered Wonders, Inc. has a fabulous gift of creating Papered Wonders that are out of this world Phenomenal. We received so many accolades on our wedding invitations that when it came time to decide on the design of our wedding program, that I left it up to Lisa Zachery to have her way and design us something uniquely fabulous. As usual, she exceeded any expectations that we had. She ended up combining a number of program designs in order to come up with our PERFECT design creation pictured below. Of course the color scheme was Tiffany Blue and Chocolate with accents of Ivory. She incorporated a beautifully tied chocolate satin bow and our monogram on the front.
She also added one of our engagement pictures as a see through cover for our inner cover page.
The inside had an explanation of the Sand Ceremony and Jumping the Broom ceremony. Additionally, our ceremony details, wedding party information, reception venue information and Thank Y0u's were included. We receive SO MANY compliments on these! I loved hearing people say "We've never seen anything like this before!" Gotta love being unique and non-traditional.

Nubian Queen Hair...African Inspired.

Every bride wants fabulous hair on her wedding day! With cameras flashing the entire time....looking perfect from every angle is key. Yes, even in hair! There are updo's, half up and half downs, chignons, buns, braids and a million other options to select from. For me, I looked at a million hair styles trying to find the perfect one for our wedding day. I could not find one. It was not until I was in Ghana, Africa in April 2009 that I found THE must have hair style. It was perfect! The woman wearing it was nice enough to let me take a picture after I told her how I loved her hair and wanted to replicate the same style for my wedding day. She was flattered adn excited to be able to help me out...specially since it was for such a special event. I changed it up by incorporating a "Nubian Braid" into the look. The original style had straight hair wrapped around the bun. It was cute, but I wanted to take it up a notch. You know me :) So the stylist braided hair around that bun to give it a more regal look. I also incorporated adding several pearls in the "curls & loops" in the back as well as adding a brooch on the left side for BLING! Gotta have bling right!?!

Our Wedding: The Bride Getting Dressed Part Two. The Dress and Veil!

When I first began my search for a gown I knew that I wanted something extraordinary. I also knew that I LOVED Maggie Sottero gowns. They are designer gowns that would make any woman feel like a Queen on her wedding day. My gown search was a fierce one! I refused to look like a typical bride on our wedding day. I wanted a look that would give WOW factor, but with some sassiness and a little bit of edginess too it. Since so many other details were impacted by my personality, my gown had to be one that spoke of me as well. I wanted people to say "I've never seen a gown like that. That's so Angela!" Not traditional, not to modern, but classic.

I was going to wear a gown with a sash that was either Tiffany Blue or Chocolate. However, I decided that since I was being me and going the nontraditional route that I'd just go all out and wear a gown with color. ALL COLOR. I chose a GOLD gown! Yes, GOLD. In person it looked Champagne colored. This dress was selected by Cacky (see upcoming posts). She watched me try on five gowns and then she asked me could she select a few for me to try on. When I was saw it, I was like...hmmmm. Maybe I' m not that BOLD. It wasn't until I put the gown on and looked in the mirror that I felt like a BRIDE! Let's take a look :)

Our Wedding: The Bride Getting Dressed Part One. The Details.

The day of the wedding I awoke and had breakfast with my family at the hotel. That helped to calm my nerves and start my day nicely.

Let's talk details of my bridal accessories, shall we. In this blog I will discuss my accessories and in the next blog I'll discuss my dress, veil and bouquet.

Every woman should have FAB shoes on her wedding day. Well, really everyday, but if no other day, on her wedding day! For those of you that know me, you know my love for a FABULOUS cute shoe. I wanted show stopper shoes to compliment my showstopper gown :)

Here are my two heel selections for the day. I could not just pick one.

Shoe selection #1. I chose an edgy design and eye catching color option for my wedding day shoes. These shoes matched our color scheme perfectly and complimented my wedding gown to a tee. It was love at first sight for me with these shoes.

Love these shoes. I saw another bride with these on when we were at the park to take pictures. She looked fierce rocking them. Love the 4" heels.
My earrings and bracelet are pictured below. I selected tear drop earrings and a handmade bracelet. It took me FOREVER to find both of these. I had purchased another pair of earrings and just didn't feel that "WOW" factor. So, I kept looking until I found the ones below. I loved my handmade bracelet. I knew I had to have it when I saw it. I ordered it and about 6 weeks later I had it. Here is a pic of me wearing my bracelet as I was saying my vows to my hubby. Bracelet during Sand Ceremony. My earrings. Loved them. Here you can see my bracelet and earrings pretty good :)

Pictured with my wonderful father, here you can see my hair pin really good. This was taken after the ceremony and after I'd taken my veil off.

Pictured below is the amazing brooch that I used as my hair pin. I had a fascinator with feathers and a gardenia as well, however, I chose to go with this pin to keep it simple and classic. I know that I wanted a classic and elegant look from head to toe. I was careful to select my accessories. I LOVED the way that the pin looked in my hair.

Another view of my hair pin. My husband is a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan, so it was only fitting that I wore a Cowboys Garter under my wedding gown. I knew that he'd want to keep it so I purchased a simple white one for him to toss at the reception. He LOVED it and was very happy that he did not have to toss it.

Pictured below is my Chance by Chanel perfume and lotion that I decided to wear that day. It was a gift from my husband and he loves the way it smells on me.

I love my silhouette in this picture below. I was trying to remember everything. There were so many details to perfect. Close up of my hair still half tied up.

Mom presented me with two family heirloom handkerchiefs. I selected to use the one that was 20 years old and sent to me from my Aunt Nellie who could not make it. They were so beautiful and meant so much to me to have on our wedding day.

Hmm, what am I forgetting? Oh, well. Peace out...on to the Mac counter.

I love MAC makeup products. So of course I went to the MAC counter so that they could hook up my makeup. It was done my a man (forgot his name) and he done a GREAT job. He did a better job than the lady who had originally done my makeup during my makeup trial. FYI: The crazy looking chic behind me was some "model" who just sat there looking crazy. SMH. Smiling at my sisters Brenda & Tarsha who took me to have my makeup done.

They were not able to get their done due to time. However, they were troopers and just wanted me to look like a Queen. Thanks ladies! Love you!

I just LOVE these pics of my hubby with the fellas.

Here are some of the details of the fellas. Clyde selected a specialty tie for his Best Men and his groomsmen. Clyde wore this tie, shown above. I loved his selection.

There was no way that my husband was going to wear a cookie cutter, rented

tie that was boring and lacked swag :)

The compliment the selection of the groom, the groomsmen were decked out in the above tie with chocolate vests. It went perfectly with our color scheme and compliments the bridal party dresses to perfection.

His best men were decked out in white and tiffany blue paisley ties with tiffany vests. Here is a pic below of Clyde and one of his best men Torey.

Our Wedding: The Groom Getting ready.

Clyde and I got dressed at the same hotel but at different times. Here are some of the pics taken by Sky+Carla of him getting dressed with his 2 best men, Austin and My father.

This is one of my FAV pics of my husband. He is so cool and calm and exudes such sexiness without trying. I love it! Ahem...okay, okay, sorry, I had to pull myself back in to the reason for this posting :) Instead of posting this pic at the end...I am posting it at the beginning.

Clyde and I were very detail driven when it came to the wedding. We thought out everything.

He ALWAYS smells so yummy. He chose Vera Wang as his day of fragrance! When I finally had a chance to hug him, I sighed, he smelled SO great!

These are his cuff links. How cute. They represent him saying "I DO."

Our Wedding Invitations: A Papered Wonders Creation...

When it came to our stationary I knew that I would be very particular. I wanted something that I'd never seen before. I searched all of the paper, invitation and stationary resources that I could find. In store and online. Themed, or not. Pocket folds. Peel and sends. Letter pressed or embossed. What about Thermography? Who knew there were so many options. I ordered sample after sample and yet none of them gave me the wow factor that I wanted. I wanted an invitation that when people received it and opened it, it made a statement. It made them say WOW-these are so nice! Beautiful! I wanted it to be an reflection of the couple that we are: modern, chic and unique. Not traditional at all. A dear friend, who has her own wedding planning and design business, suggested using Papered Wonders, Inc. (PWI) for our stationary needs. I contacted PWI and sent them a few samples of what I wanted, but in order to get what I wanted...it would require combining certain elements for a few invitations into one. Lisa Zachery and the PWI team were so wonderful to work with. They created me the most awesome, beautiful, FAB, chic, and unique invitation! Below are some half-decent pics of our invitation. We received SOOOO many compliments on them. To say that we were pleased would be putting it lightly. WE LOVED OUR INVITATIONS!!

Details...Save The Dates.

My Husband (I love being able to say that) and I keep getting questions about the details of our wedding. So, I have decided to answer questions by doing various blogs on the "details" of our wedding planning and wedding day. First topic...Save The Dates also known in the wedding planning world as STDs. Weird, huh. Lol. STDs are to help give your wedding guests time to plan, especially if you are doing an out of town or destination wedding where many people will have to travel.

For our STDs, we wanted to do something VERY different and unlike anything we have ever seen done before. Having said that, we decided on creating a "STD packet." The STD packet consisted of our STD magnets, hotel accommodation information cards and our Registry information cards. Below is a replica of the STD magnet that we included. We love them and from all of the accolades from our friends and family they love them as well! We ordered these on line. Where are tons of websites that offer these for you to purchase!

Bridal Portraits in dress number one...

Cheers Everyone! I am so excited as I type this post....it's bridal portrait time! Woohoo. In this blog posting I will be sharing some of my bridal portraits with you. These were taken by Sky (http://www.sky-carla.com/) at Château Élan before the wedding. Château Élan is a winery and resort with beautiful grounds and spectacular vineyards. I wore a different gown than the one that I wore on our wedding day. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being a two dress bride. Two dresses and four pair of shoes between the two gowns...a girls dream! Since I knew that I was going to wear a cathedral length veil for the ceremony, I decided to rock a non-traditional birdcage veil for my bridals. I had a fascinator with a flower and feathers for my hair, however I decided to keep it simple. I'll rock the fascinator another day! Without further ado...my bridals!

We are back from our Honeymoon!

Wow, what a great whirlwind the past two weeks have been for us! We just returned from our awesome honeymoon. This Honeymoon (HM) was exactly what we wanted and what we needed. It was rest, relaxation, fun and great times. The ports of call were all cool. We Zip-lined and snorkeled in Honduras, in Belize we went cave tubing, in Cozumel we took a taxi downtown and just took in the city and in Grand Cayman we went on a tour to 7 mile beach, dolphin cove, and to the Tortuga rum cake factory; as well as a tour around the island. We'll give a better recap on the honeymoon and the wedding soon. Here are a few of teaser pics from our honeymoon.

Note: A splash of color in your wardrobe can take you from the least anticipated to the most wanted.

I was told that this pic looks like an album cover;
I think that it is important to pay attention to the fine details. The ties for the fellas were chosen over the course of about 10 months...but with the outcome I got...well worth it. It is also cool that they got to keep the ties as part of their gift.

The Bridal Party dresses were selected to look good on a variety of body types. I love the contrast of the Tiffany Blue with the Chocolate. I wanted to be a little bold and do something not so traditional. I was pleased with the outcome.

First Glance. I took a deep breath, exhaled and took it all in before I took my first step down the aisle with my father.

Everyone was looking at me and I only saw him. I looked at him while I walked down and it was the best feeling. My father was helping to calm me.

This has EASILY been the best feeling that I have ever had. I wish this natural high for everyone: "He that findeth a wife findeth a good thing."- I am blessed to have found my good thing.

The SC Aquarium was an awesome venue and the All star cast (fish included) were a major PLUS!

I am married to my best friend and the love of my life! Our wedding day was Saturday, October 17th, 2009. I loved our ceremony that took place and though there were some hiccups at the beginning of the reception, the party kept moving! I had another fab-u-lous photography session with Sky of Sky+Carla Photographers on Saturday. One of my Matron of Honors, Trice, went with me. It was great. We took them at Château Élan. Issues with the Post Office and R.S.V.P. cards...

Though we mailed our invitations the end of August and the beginning of September, several people have yet to receive theirs. Ughhhhh. A few people have called within the past couple of days and stated that their invite looked as if it was lost and that they were just getting it; however, it was clearly post marked weeks ago. Sigh. Gotta just shake my head on that one. This creates issues that I never considered. Issue One: our R.S.V.P. deadline was two weeks ago. Issue Two: Our guest list keeps growing. Yep, not cool.

Something else that has caused me a headache, is the fact that people do not send their R.S.V.P. cards back or they have sent them back AFTER the deadline. Can we say etiquette?!? People want to "send word" via our family or friends that they are coming. Again, not cool. I feel as if we thought enough of you to invite you to our wedding by sending you a formal invitation with a self addressed and stamped R.S.V.P./Reply card, the least you could do was return it to us, on time. I was warned about this from other brides and I was like SURELY our guest won't do that. Oh, well. They were right.

Counting down....two more weeks from tomorrow! Woohoo!

We have our Marriage License!

We were in Charleston,SC this past weekend to handle more wedding related business. I had to have my makeup trial, dress alteration appointment and meeting with the florist. In addition to those items, our biggest to do list check was getting our MARRIAGE LICENSE! Yay! We went and applied for it and had to go back to pick it up the next day. Hmm, maybe they do that to ensure you are not going to change your mind. Go figure. Nonetheless, we were so excited! When we walked in there and went through security as Clyde's watch was on the "x-ray" monitor it was shaped like a heart. Us and the security man and woman were in agreement that was a good sign! I love the elegance of a classy updo. Be it a bun, chignon, twist around...love the look. I am still deciding whether to rock my hair up or down. Hmmm, we'll see. My 1st Bridal Shower.

I am so excited to make this posting. I attended my first bridal shower a couple of Saturdays ago! Woohoo! We had a fabulous time. Thanks to my sisters and my dear friends Trice and Rhonda for pulling this together for me. Thank you ladies! It was so great to see everyone. I have to admit that I shed happy tears when I realized that certain people were in attendance that I was not expecting. I was honored to have everyone at a gathering to celebrate Clyde and I and our upcoming nuptials. Let's talk details! This one took place here in Atlanta and was themed "A Day at the Derby." There were fab hats, dresses and pearls. Every table was named after a horse that had won the Kentucky Derby and that was showcased by fabulous table cards.

There were the cards that the attendees wrote their well wishes on. Notice the details of the chic lady in the fierce hat...loves it. I'd love to rack a hat just like that for the Oaks races and Derby races in Kentucky! Just FAB! The idea of using these cards were so creative. The well wishes and heartfelt messages were so sweet. I finally had an opportunity to read them last night and some of them made me teary eyed while others made me laugh.

Let's talk monograms! Monograms help to provide an elegant touch to a wedding or any event. It helps to incorporate more of a personal touch to stationary, favors and reception decor. The first initials of the bride and the groom may be used, or the three initials of both members of the bridal couple may be incorporated into the design. There are many ways to design a monogram. Usually the grooms last name (soon to be bride's last name) is the middle initial and then the the first initial of the bride is first and the grooms first initial is last or you can use the initial of the last name and their entire first names. But of course not ;) I cannot wait to show them to you after the wedding and in our wedding pics. They're worth the wait. Though they are perfect, when I saw this pic...I was like Caa-yuuute (cute)! This would be a relatively easy DIY task. Hmm, to do or not to do...either way I'll be saying I DO soon!

I do not blog on this site too often (I like to let the Future Mrs. do her thang). I do want to follow up with a bit of info for the grooms out there. PAY ATTENTION to the details! It is so easy to just go by the nearest tux shop, pick out a "penguin suit", get the accessories that come along with the suit and call it a day. When it comes down to your wedding day (unless her parents are paying for EVERYTHING it's your day too...you are getting married as well, right?) make sure that you have something that shows who you are. It could be something as small as "ball and chain" cuff links, maybe a brand new pair of Chuck Taylors (you will need to get an OK from the bride on this one). Where are you getting married? Beach? (how about some fly sandals?), Whatever you do, make sure that you add those little small details that are unique to you. You will be glad you did when you get the pictures back.

When I began the long process of searching for my dream gown, I had a particular look in mind. My search for a dress was a fierce one! I did not want to wear “the usual boring bridal gown” in white/ivory with a typical veil. Not knocking those that do, it's just not my cup of Chai tea. I refuse to look like a typical bride on our wedding day. That’s not my style. Though traditional in some ways, when it comes to my attire, I wanted something a little less traditional and more in line with my style and personality. I want a look that is going to give the WOW factor with a little bit of sassiness to it. My accessories will play a big part in the whole look. I am not sure if I will wear my hair up or down. Overall, I want my look to be classic, elegant and edgy at the same time. Sounds weird, I know, but hey, you will see it when it all comes together. My dress is PERFECT! I will say that my dress designer is Maggie Sottero. My next post will be on the chosen designer!

Dress Dilemma...don't let it happen to you!

As I picked out my bridal party dresses I never, as in not even once, anticipated any issues. Well, 2 days before they were to have their $ in and sizing completed, one my my bridesmaids called and said that the dress doesn't come in her size and height. She needed an extra tall dress and the bridal shop only had one that fit that profile...and it was totally different from the dress that I had selected. Oh yeah, and ugly. Needless to say I had my first mini-bridal-meltdown. I am posting this as food for thought for brides to be. If you have very tall women in your wedding party, please ensure that you select a dress that comes in tall/extra long/or that can be custom fit. This will help alleviate unnecessary and unwanted stress! Sigh.

My Wedding Band is Perfect!

Clyde surprised me and ordered my wedding band a few weeks ago. I walked in the house the other day and he presented this box to me with a HUGE smile on his face. I was clueless and had no idea what it was. I mean really, for all I know, it could have been diamond earrings to match my engagement ring ;-) Instead it was something far better. He opened the box and there was my wedding band. The band that I will forever wear. It sparkled and was PERFECT. I had selected three that I really liked and he picked my first selection. She is a perfect compliment to my perfet engagement ring. I love him so very much. He is so thoughtful and makes me happy beyond measure. God is so very good!

Save The Dates (STDs) have been mailed!

Wow, I am so glad to have all of our STDs mailed. We have already begun to receive phone calls and emails about them. We wanted to do something VERY different and unlike anything we have ever seen done before. Having said that, we decided on creating a "STD packet." The STD packet consisted of our STD magnets, hotel information cards and our Registry information cards. Below is a replica of the STD magnet that we included. The Wedding Ring

I purchased Angela's wedding ring day before yesterday. I must admit, it was a whole lot less stressful than buying the e-ring (the fact that I used the term "e-ring" means that I know more about wedding planning than any man should have to know). It helps that the wedding rings are a joint decision venture between the two of you, so you KNOW she is going to like it.
The fun part to me was choosing the ring. Angela had about three or so rings that she likes, she will find out in a few days how it looks on her finger.

Once I found my dream gown I knew that I couldn't wait much longer to decide on the BP dresses. Clyde picked out the guys tux's months ago. Should I be ashamed of myself and feel bad that it took me so long? Naaah. I don't think so. Some people were telling me that I needed to place the order for the girls dresses months ago. But I didn't want to pick out their dresses before I selected my gown. What if they did not compliment one another? That would not be a good look.

I was looking for a particular color, and a particular style, and I wasn't going to just pick "a" dress just for the sake of keeping on track with my monthly wedding checklist or what others felt that I should be doing at this time in my wedding planning. Additionally, I had to find a dress that fit various body types. I was going to offer two choices, but decided against it. I knew that time was passing by and there was nothing to be done about it but get it done. No need in fretting over it. I truly love the dresses that the girls will be wearing. One of my Matron of Honors (Trice) and my BM and sister (Darlena) went with me and I am so happy that they did. We had fun! Well...here are the dresses!

We had our food tasting with the caterer!

As I mentioned last month, our food tasting was coming up. When we decided to create our menu we put alot of thought into it. We wanted it to be fun, unique and of course, great tasting. We decided to incorporate my Kentucky side of southern cooking and his Charleston side of seafood and low country delicacies in order to have a fabulous fusion of both. We were both nervous & excited about our tasting. We had never eaten any of the head chefs food so we did not know how good or bad his skills were.

I will proudly admit that we are both foodies and somewhat snobs about it so we were really going to take this time to get a feel for our head chef and let him know what needed to be tweaked, completely changed or left as is. I must admit that we were pleasantly surprised with the taste and quality of food. They normally don't serve alcohol at tastings, but since Clyde invented a signature drink for our reception in honor of ME, they went ahead. It was wonderful! Even the chef was impressed. With the way that the tasting went, we are more than comfortable knowing that our guests are going to enjoy every part of the dining experience at the reception. We are so very excited!

Purchased THE DRESS today!

Whew! Over the years I have heard brides say that you "just know" when you have on the perfect wedding gown. Some brides cry, some brides look in the mirror as if they cannot believe it, other brides say that they finally felt like they were REALLY about to marry when they found THE ONE! Well I am happy to say, that the wedding gown search is over and THE DRESS has been chosen, paid for and ordered. It has been months of trying on, looking online, jumping into, wiggling out, zipping up, lacing up and sliding into different dresses. I mean, really, I have had to do all of those things in the quest for the PERFECT dress. Now, if I must say so myself, and I will, it's absolutely STUNNING! Regardless of the other dresses that I tried on, they did not compare to the chosen one. I am elated to have that taken care of. Now, the search begins for stunning shoes. It's on now!

I am elated to report that I have reached the 15 pound weight loss marker! Woohoo! I can now fit clothes that I had outgrown and even some that I had refused to give away. Yes, I can admit it. There were two pair of fly jeans that fit my body to perfection and I was determined to get back in those babies. Come on ladies, admit it. You know the ONES....those jeans that hug your curves and the ones that you know makes men and women alike look. We all have at least one pair of jeans like that. If not, step your game up and get like those of us that do :-) It's such a GREAT feeling. It's been a journey and will continue to be one. I am also happy to report that I am slowly falling back in love with running. I feel refreshed after my workouts now. There are actually days that I look forward to going to the gym and even running a couple or few miles. Imagine that! Dress, here I come.

Lenore Garnhum is a fabulous, unique custom designer. She designs stationary, mugs, coasters, tees, totes, journals and a number of other items. She was my saving grace as I was looking for unique "Will You Be My Bridesmaid, Maid of Honor and Matron of Honor" cards. (See post below about those!) I immediately fell in love with her creations. Tuxes

Grooms, if you are reading this... take a word of advice: When it comes to choosing your wedding colors, agree on something that you KNOW is an easy combination for both of you to find...Tiffany blue is NOT an easy color.
I don't believe that it was all of that long ago when I remember being able to rent a tux for the night for under $100. That being said, I am glad that months ago I went on the web and searched out the tuxes that I liked. When the time came, I just went into the store with my listing of the men in the wedding and the fathers' tuxes. It also helps if you already know your sizes. The process was easy even though I really was trying to be cost conscious..heck it's just a black tux c'mon! So here's my cheat sheet for getting it done (especially if this is your solo responsibility):
1. Make a list of everyone wearing a tux for the wedding (ring bearer and ushers included)
2. Decide Who is wearing what colors ( I recommend that you keep the ushers in Black and white)
3. Go online and check out the sites of the tux companies in your area. (If you have guys from all over the place participating in your wedding, I suggest a national chain like Savvy or Mens Warehouse..it makes it convenient.)
4. Make a note of the names of the tuxes and who will be wearing them.(Stick to one store)
5. Take this info to the store nearest to you. I also suggest that you take a look at the items in person. You will surprised how big of a difference things are in person compared to online.
6. Let the guys in the wedding know this info ASAP!! Last minute will miss you up. (Not to mention, it will be fun sitting back watching the ladies scramble around while you and fellas drink beer because everyone got sized and paid months earlier.)
7. Don't leave the store until you have tried EVERYTHING on! (This is also another reason why it helps to use a National chain).
8. Get confirmation when you turn in your tux...you can never be too careful!

Choosing the Fellas...

At this point in my life, I believe that I look at weddings a lot differently than when some of my friends got married in their mid twenties. As I stand before God, Family, and Friends, I have to have those around me that I KNOW have my best intrest at heart. So with that being said, instead of having the standard phone call or drink and asking the question "so are you in?". I decided to have cards created for my Best Men and groomsmen. I went to Greeting Card Universe and found "Will you be..." cards. Since each of these gentlemen are different and they mean different things to me, I made sure that each card was different. On the inside left of the card I had printed an original poem that i wrote. On the right of the card, I printed what they meant to me and what I learned from each of them and asked them to stand with me. It would have been easy for me to do a Frat thing or a Masonic thing, but I truly wanted people that I can call "brother" in EVERY meaning that the word entails. I am extrmemly elated and Blessed beyond measure to have this group of kind, dependable, and loving brothers to stand with me as I enter into this stage of my life.

When I thought about the women that I want to stand by my side as I become a wife, I knew that I wanted to ask them in a very special manner. I could have just called, sent a text message or maybe even an email asking them to be in our wedding. However, I felt that would be a disservice to how I feel about these women, my sisters and my best friends. I knew that however it was to be done, it needed to by unique, cute, unexpected and meaningful.

One day as I was searching online for "Will you be my" stuff, I came across this ebay seller named Lenore who had FIERCE work in her store (She will be my next blog feauture!). She created these beautiful cards with me and my 8 bridal party (BP) members that I fell in love with. I was elated even more once I found that she would print whatever I wanted inside of them. Each woman in my BP has a different meaning to me and I wanted her to know WHY I want her to stand with me as I get married. Not simply because she is my sister or friend and that it what "people" are supposed to do. This was different. This would be women who have the best interest of Clyde and I at heart. Praying women, friends and sisters who love me for me and who have shared in my life in one manner or another for many years.

I typed up a special message for each woman telling her what she means to me and why I want her standing with me on our special day. Inauguration day recap!

As I watched history happen right before my eyes, I was very proud and overjoyed watching President Obama & 1st Lady Michelle Obama handle the day with such a jovial grace. Sasha and Malia were fabulous and beautiful, as usual. They are such great children! They all looked great! As did Vice President Biden and His wife, Dr. Jill Biden! I have never been more proud to be an American citizen. God is great!

I was so sick of looking a bland, blah, boring, traditional ballrooms for our reception. I mean really, could it get ANY more traditional than a church ceremony and ballroom reception? Ugh. I am not knocking others who go that route, but it is NOT my cup of chai tea :-) When we looked at the S.C. Aquarium we immediately knew that this was THE SPOT! It was to die for. It is so not traditional! It is classy, modern & chic. Elegant and inviting. LOVES IT! The view, the ambiance, the water, the fish...THE SPOT! Below are some pics of THE SPOT. Awareness Ribbons!

This is one of those non-wedding related posts. However, I feel passionate about it and want to bring awareness to Awareness Ribbons. Awareness Ribbons are a way to raise awareness and remind people of the struggle with diseases that many families face. I know that we see random colors and wonder what they mean or maybe go on with what we are doing without giving them any thought. I would REALLY like to encourage you to have a cause that means something to you. I have several. When you look at the single red ribbon below, it represents the HIV/AIDS Pandemic. I worked in that field for years and there is still so many obstacles to cross when it comes to preventing it. The colorful Puzzle Ribbon is for Autism Awareness. One of my best friends has a nephew with Autism. He is such a wonderful kid and there is still so much to be done in research for Autism prevention/awareness. I have been so busy that wedding planning has kinda taken a backseat for a little bit. However, I am back now and will be planning more. Well, today's post is on CANDLES!

I love candles! I think that candles can add that special, dramatic flare and be an addition for a romantic ambiance in a room or venue. We will mos def have tons of candles. Here are examples that I like how they used candles to LIGHT up a room. This is a very inexpensive way to add extra lighting without paying an arm and a leg for it.

Invitations are typically the first impression that your guest will have pertaining to your wedding. An invitation can state whether an event is formal or casual. Trendy or traditional. Chic or eclectic. I have been to and been in a great deal of weddings. Usually the invitations were simple and concise. There is nothing wrong with that. However, I have only gotten one invitation to a wedding that really WOWED me and then another that I just though was very nice and reflected the couple. We want our invitations to set the mood for our wedding. We have gone back and forth over should they be square, rectangular, pocket folds, have enclosures or not have enclosures and if so, what enclosures. I mean really, all of this for invitations? Yep. All of that. We have come across a few companies that make very nice personal invitations in whatever color, paper stock and style we would like. The verdict is still out on this. However, here are some that we really like. The first is my FAV out of the three below. What do you think?

It's hard to say goodbye!

I am pouting, lips poked out and all, because I am saying goodbye to MEXICAN FOOD FRIED FOODS and my fav cake, YELLOW CAKE W/ CHOCOLATE ICING and all other SWEETS as well as white rice and potatoes!

After cleaning out my closet today to transition out my summer clothes and prepare for Fall/Winter, I came across these CUTE size 6 jeans that used to be one of my FAVS and also some that I once rocked with PRIDE! You REALLY could not tell me that I wasn't the FLYEST chica with them on. Needless to say, I cannot get in them anymore! After I cleaned out my closet, I blessed someone else with them as well as some other items. However, I kept my FAV pair as motivation!

Can you say REALITY check! I have to pull this body of mine together! Now, I know that some of you have said, "girl, you don't need to lose weight or you look nice that size, etc." However, this is the most that I have EVER weighed. I am at my heaviest and that is NOT a good feeling nor is a cute look on me. Yep, I have got to lose 23 pounds before the wedding. I have 11 months to get it done before the wedding and honeymoon are here. I plan to have this goal met within the next 5-6 months. I will do it with hard work (exercise, will power and better eating habits) and self motivation. I have realized that it is a HEALTH issue and not to mention, in a few years I plan on being a mom. So, with that being said, I have to get it together now so that I am able to bounce back after we have children! I have seen several women do it and I plan on joining that club! That is another motivating factor for me. I am not getting any younger ;-) Wish me success! Here we go... I am on my way to a thinner and more healthy ME!

My lovely fiance is an alumni of Clemson University and loves the Clemson Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys. We live in Atlanta who has the Falcons football team and I am from Kentucky. For those of you who REALLY know me, you also know my love for a HAWT (hot, fierce, FAB) shoe. I love shoes! I don't care if they are Strappy, Mary Janes, Peep Toes, Platforms, Stilettos, Sandals, Pumps or Boots! If they are FIRE, I will rock them. Some people spend their money on jewels, clothes, furniture or whatever else may float their boat. However, for me, it's SHOES! High heels to be exact. Yes, I love clothes and new ones at that, but a well made shoe, is so worth the money!

I just can't wear a pair of WHITE "bridal-ly" shoes on our wedding day! So, the quest to find the PERFECT shoe begins. Manolo Blahnik is an icon and legendary shoe designer. Here are two that I have fallen in love with. The teal and chocolate print ones are our wedding colors! Don't you agree that they are a must have for my shoe collection!?! I want to look back on our wedding pictures years from now and know that my hair was FABULOUS! I want something classic and chic that compliments my bridal attire. We have a ceremony venue!! Woohoo! We have decided to marry in a church. His childhood church as a matter of fact. I had originally had my heart set on marrying outdoors and having a tented reception with the wind blowing in my hair as my veil swayed in the breeze. Can't you see it?! Not to hot, not to cold, drinks flowing, passed hot and cold Hor d'oeuvres. Nice, right? Oh, and it would have been on or very near the water! Oh, well. Since this venue meant so much to my awesome future husband, how could I deny him such a meaningful request. Therefore, request granted! So a church ceremony it is. Now, this is NOT just "some" church. It is a historical landmark. I fell in love with the stained glass windows and the lovely character of the building.

This church was the first brick church building owned by African Americans in Charleston and was purchased in 1882 by members of Emanuel AME Church to alleviate its overcrowded conditions. The 54th & 55th Massachusetts worshipped here while stationed in Charleston. With its six different choirs, it is the only church in Charleston that offers the widest variety of service music, ranging from classical to original unarranged Negro spirituals that date before the 1900s.

Tablescape ideas.

Lately, I have seen a variety of tablescapes on my quest for inspiration in order to design ours. Some with candles, some with flowers, some with both. Some with crystals, tree branches, staggered vases, clear and colored decorative bowls and even fish. Yes, poor little fish in bowls. Can you say, tacky!? But hey, it's not MY decor, I just hate it for those poor fish! Tablescapes are basically tables decorated and made to look fabulous and chic (though they do not always come out that way). Linens can play a vital role in the overall appearance of your tablescape. We have already selected our linens for the reception and and I must say, that are FAB!! Who knew that there were so many options for wedding cakes?!? They come in every color, shape, size, theme and flavor. I have been looking at tons of websites and magazines and I have been amazed at all of the options for weddings in this day and age. We do not want a traditional wedding cake, but then again, not many things in our wedding will be traditional. We want everyone to enjoy eating our cake and maybe even take some to go. This is why we picked Cakes by Kasarda for our baker. However, before any of our guests taste it they will see it and we want them to be WOWED by our cake in appearance and taste. A piece of Cake

I really had no idea what to expect for this one. We got a bit pissed at the other baker that we had an appoint with (Lady Fingers in Charlston, SC) because they had to cancel an appointment that we had made at least a MONTH prior even though we were coming into town primarily for tasting. I thought that Angela was going to call and curse her out. This turned out to be a blessing. We arrive at Kasarda's and she comes to the door.... NICE SPOT!
Now to the cake...

This part I take VERY seriously (I'm a foodie). Kasarda made our choice EXTREMELY HARD! I was thankful for that. She was very knowledgeable about how things were to be done and what the best options were for getting our cake done. We hate fondant! On a personal note: I am not a fan of chocolate cake...but the chocolate cake she had was incredible!! It needed NO MILK!

We made some preliminary decisions and still have to decide on our top layer. If you are wondering why I am not disclosing the chosen cakes and the fillings is because we want it to be a surprise. :-P

I whole heartedly reccomend Kasarda for all of your special cake needs...
